Kate and Rodney’s wedding day in Toronto didn’t unfold the way most people would plan and that’s exactly what made it unforgettable.
With rain falling steadily throughout the day, their celebration at Sassafraz became something more intimate, more intentional, and more reflective of what the day was really about.
Instead of working around the weather, they leaned into it and in doing so, created space for moments that felt honest, emotional, and completely their own.

The morning of Kate and Rodney’s wedding carried a quieter kind of energy. With rain falling steadily outside, getting ready became less about rushing between moments and more about easing into the day.
Inside, everything felt calm and contained. Natural light filtered through softly, conversations lingered a little longer, and there was space to actually take it all in.
Getting ready is often one of the most overlooked parts of a wedding day, but it’s where the shift really begins from anticipation into presence. On a day like this, that transition felt even more intentional.
Before the day fully unfolded, they chose to share a first look just the two of them. With the rain continuing outside, it created space to slow down, take everything in, and be present with each other before stepping into the rest of the day. These moments often become some of the most meaningful not because they’re perfectly planned, but because they’re real, uninterrupted, and entirely their own.

We began their portraits outside, taking advantage of the soft, overcast light that comes with a rainy day. There’s a quiet kind of calm that settles in during moments like this everything feels a little slower, a little more intentional.
As the rain picked up, we didn’t fight it we simply shifted. Moving indoors allowed us to continue the momentum of their portraits in a way that still felt connected to the day, just in a different setting.
Some of my favourite images often come from these in-between adjustments the moments where plans change, but the feeling of the day stays exactly the same.

Their ceremony was one of those moments that felt like a deep exhale. Tucked inside, safely hidden away from the rain, Kate and Rodney were surrounded by their closest people and the energy was pure joy. There were so many sweet moments throughout, from quiet smiles to bursts of laughter that rippled through the room. It felt intimate in the best way. The kind of ceremony where everyone leaned in a little closer, where the love felt obvious and easy, and where the rain outside faded completely into the background. Warm, heartfelt, and full of personality it was a perfect reflection of who they are together.

Instead of a traditional dance floor, Kate and Rodney did something even better, they took their guests bowling. And honestly? It was epic.
Lanes filled with laughter, friendly competition, celebratory high-fives, and moments that felt more like a night out with your favourite people than a formal reception. Drinks in hand, shoes swapped, and joy everywhere you looked. It was the kind of celebration that felt intentional, personal, and so much fun to photograph.
This reception wasn’t about tradition for tradition’s sake. It was about connection, shared experiences, and creating memories their guests will talk about for years.
Rainy weather, a cozy ceremony, bowling instead of dancing, and a day built around joy and experience Kate & Rodney’s wedding was a reminder that the best weddings don’t follow a script. They reflect the couple, their values, and the way they want their people to feel.
And this one? It felt warm, intentional, and unforgettable.
